Rail Transport Can Create 10,000 Jobs Yearly- Union

Rail transport can create 10,000 jobs annually, if revived, says Mr Raphael Okoro, the President, Nigeria Union of Railway Workers (NUR).

Okoro, therefore, advised the government to make the revival of the rail system a priority, stressing that if government spent N20 billion on one road, It would soon go bad due to the weight of the goods.

RAILWAY POLICE SUSPECT INSIDERS’ HAND IN HEISTS

Thefts in parcel compartments of Ranchi-bound trains passing through Uttar Pradesh have been a recurring incident for the past two weeks. The reason that comes to mind first is flawed arrangements, but railway police personnel have reasons of their own to cite.

"There have been several cases of thefts in recent times, but they are something more than mere thefts. There are many angles involved here - irregularities on part of parcel agents, rivalry among parcel agents, involvement of insiders. Even if to a certain extent, security lapses are not the only factor working behind these thefts," said a railway police requesting anonymity.

Siemens RailFusion to turn Big Data into Intelligence

Siemens launches RailFusion Big Data Asset Monitoring Software that monitors and analyses Data Points across an entire RailRoad Infra

Siemens, at Railway Interchange-2015 held at Minneapolis between October 4-7, introduced RailFusion, a software solution that monitors and analyzes data points across an entire railroad’s infrastructure including onboard and wayside assets like road crossings and end-of-train devices.

“On any given railroad there are trillions of data points being created by train systems and devices along a line, but this data is simply not being put into action,” said John Paljug, head of Siemens Rail Automation. “RailFusion brings all of these disparate data points together in one system and puts intelligence behind them, allowing railroads to make more informed, efficient decisions about how to operate and maintain their systems specific to their needs.”

Railways plan green toilets for clean trains, stations

For the first time in Indian Railways, a set of such toilets has been installed on a trial basis in one of the AC-I coaches of Dibrugarh Rajdhani.

NEW DELHI: Stinking toilets in trains may soon become a thing of the past. Indian Railways is gearing up to replace all conventional toilets in the trains with "bio-vacuum toilets". Officials said these environment-friendly toilets consume less water and also help in preventing corrosion of rail tracks.

For the first time in Indian Railways, a set of such toilets has been installed on a trial basis in one of the AC-I coaches of Dibrugarh Rajdhani at an estimated cost of about Rs 3 lakh. Officials said after completion of successful trials, around 80 such toilets will be installed in a Shatabdi Express for which the department may float global tenders inviting multinational companies from USA, Germany and Spain.

According to the Delhi division officials, the vacuum toilets installed in the trains in foreign countries have a retention tank placed under the coach. It holds all human waste that is flushed out of the toilet. The toilet then needs to be evacuated at terminal stations, making involvement of municipal corporations necessary in the process.
