Improvement in punctuality of NFR trains

GUWAHATI, June 5 - Maligaon-headquartered Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has reported a marked improvement in the punctuality performance of trains this financial year.

Officials said the punctuality performance has increased in all the five divisions of NFR and also in both Mail and Express trains as well as in the local Passenger trains.

In the period up to May 31 of this fiscal (2016-17), the total punctuality performance in the Lumding division of NFR, which includes Guwahati and nearby areas, has gone up to 93 per cent as compared to 73.37 per cent as up to May 31 of 2015-16.

Punctuality of Mail and Express trains has reached 91.68 per cent from 72.46 per cent during this period, while that of Passenger trains has risen to 95.18 per cent as compared to 74.85 per cent in the Lumding division.

Similarly, in the Tinsukia division the overall punctuality stood at 98.28 per cent up to May 31 this year as against 85.76 per cent in the corresponding period of last fiscal.

Mail/Express trains’ punctuality improved to 97.52 per cent from 82.43 per cent and that of Passenger trains has gone up to 99.40 per cent from 90.49 per cent.

In the Rangiya division, the overall punctuality as on May 31 of this fiscal was 91.26 percent as compared to 78.30 per cent in the same period of the last financial year.

Punctuality of Mail and Express trains in Rangiya division has gone up to 89.11 per cent from 77.77 per cent and that of Passengers to 94.31 per cent from 79.18 per cent during the period under review.

In the Katihar division also the total punctuality performance up to May 31 this year touched 95.98 per cent as against 70.74 in the same period of 2015-16, while in the Alipurduar division it went up to 87.27 per cent compared to 66.57 per cent during the period.

The NFR zone has also taken up a major project in the field of bio-toilets. “Altogether 1,711 bio-toilets have been fitted in 543 coaches so far. This year we are targeting to fit bio-toilets in another 1,000 coaches. All coaches in trains of the zone are to be fitted with bio-toilets by 2019-20,” said an NFR official.

He added that plans are also afoot to commission a 700 KWP solar power plant in the Guwahati Railway Station during the ongoing 2016-17 fiscal.
