Railway team set to inspect Surat, Udhana stations

Surat: Railway employees are on their toes as Ministry of Railway's Passenger Service Committee (PSC) members are scheduled to visit Surat and Udhana railway stations on Tuesday. The PSC members will be arriving from Mumbai on Monday night and will start inspection of passenger amenities and infrastructure at Surat and Udhana railway stations on Tuesday.

"The PSC team members will inspect Surat and Udhana railway stations for passenger amenities, quality of food, platform cleanliness and toilets. They will also talk to passengers to gather information," said area railway manager S K Yadav.

Many in the city are unhappy with the state of-affairs at Surat and Udhana stations. Tarun Chugh, a member of Surat Railway Station Development () Citizen Forum, said, "Udhana railway station lacks basic facilities for passengers. The biggest risk passengers face here is non-functional and broken foot-over-bridge. Passengers have to literally cross the tracks which endangers their lives."Udhana railway station, proposed to be developed as a satellite railway station, does not have separate entry and exit for vehicles, which results in heavy traffic jams.

Rakesh Shah, a lone member of PSC from Gujarat, said, "There are many issues to be highlighted during the visit of members at Surat and Udhana railway station. Our focus is more on upgrading passenger facilities at Udhana."
