Motorists force open crossing, CR trains hit

The movement of Central Railway trains between Thane and Kalyan was affected for nearly an hour on Friday morning after some motorists did not allow the level crossing gate at Kharegaon to be shut.

The incident occurred around 10am when some motorists allegedly threatened the gatekeeper to keep the barrier open for more time as there was a long queue of vehicles at the crossing. After the gatekeeper tried to shut the barrier after the stipulat ed time limit, some irate motorists reportedly managed to have their way and ensured the gate remained open for the next 40 minutes. “Trains cannot pass when the gates are open,“ said a CR official.

Nearly three trains on either side were bunched between Diva and Mulund. The impact lasted till late afternoon as trains were running behind schedule. Commuters had a harrowing as no reason was cited by CR for the delay .“We are not aware of the incident,“ said Ramesh Nair, senior inspector of the Thane Railway Protection Force.
