The new escalator at the second platform of the Thrissur railway station will be inaugurated by Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu through video conferencing on Monday. However, the escalator on the first platform is not yet ready.
The delay in reaching the machines from China is said to be the reason for the delay.

The Minister will also inaugurate the Wi-Fi facility at the railway station. Wi-Fi facility is already being offered on a trial basis at the station. Around 10,000 people can avail themselves of the service, according to station manager Joseph Ninan.

The escalator costing Rs.65 lakh was imported from China. Though its structural part was completed a year ago, the installation was done recently after the machine reached from China. The Thrissur railway station was classified in A1 category three years ago considering the high annual revenue. But there are complaints that the railway station lacks facilities like emergency medical service, train arrival-departure indicator and coach guidance system.
