Defunct ATMs at bus, rly stations has people livid

Visakhapatnam: Defunct ATMs at almost all railway and bus stations in north coastal AP has left passengers in the lurch as they are unable to withdraw money to pay for their transport.

TOI visited the city railway station and Dwarakanagar Bus Station on Friday and found that the ATMs have not been working ever since the demonetisation drive more than three weeks ago.
"There is only one SBI ATM at the main entrance of the railway stations that was functional, but a few days ago, it was damaged due to extensive use. No bank official has come to repair it and load cash," a cop posted at the main entrance said.

The situation at the bus station was similar. A tea stall owner who has his shop adjacent to the ATM counter said, "Bank officials have not visited the ATM counter in the past one week to check its condition. Everyone keeps asking me whether there is money it the machine."

Speaking to TOI, deputy chief traffic manager for Dwarakanagar Bus Station Ch Appalanarayana said, "The SBI ATM near Sairam Parlour outside the station went kaput a few days ago. We informed the concerned bank officials about the defunct machine, but they are yet to send someone to set right the ATM and load cash.
