NEW DELHI: The demonetised Rs 500 notes won't be accepted in state-transport buses, for railway and metro ticket purchases or for rail catering after December 10.

The government had earlier allowed the use of Rs 500 notes for a number of purposes, including public transport, purchasing railway, metro, and airline tickets (at airports), and railway catering till midnight of December 15.

Top CommentMore than enough time has been given to use the old currency notes. There have been a lot of people who have take wrong advantage of this facility given to benfit the common man.added that the old versions of these denominations will continue to be legal tender.

The old Rs 500 note, as well as the Rs 1000 note were removed from circulation at midnight, between November 8 and November 9. New Rs 500 notes, and Rs 2000 notes have been issued since then.

The Reserve Bank of India has also announced that new Rs 20, Rs 50, and Rs 100 notes will be released, but added that the old versions of these denominations will continue to be legal tender.
