Railways to raise speed on Delhi-Howrah, Delhi-Mumbai routes to 200 kmph

The government on Wednesday said the Indian Railways plans to develop two speed raising projects of 3,000 km on Delhi-Mumbai and Delhi-Howrah routes at an estimated cost of Rs 18,000 crore. The proposed speed under these projects will be 200 kmph.

Railway Minister Piyush Goyal has directed the IRCTC and the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) to strengthen cyber security in the wake of an alleged ticketing scam unearthed by the CBI.

The CBI earlier this week nabbed a software programmer of its anti-corruption division, who was also an employee of the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation formerly, for allegedly operating an illicit software that subverted the railways reservation system.

Railways' claims fall flat as 190 trains arrive late

LUCKNOW: The dense fog cover in north India threw rail traffic into disarray in the Lucknow region. Out of 300 trains that arrive at Charbaghstation daily, 190 arrived late on Friday, leaving passengers stranded for hours in the cold.
Several prominent trains like Shatabdi Express, Lucknow Mail, Marudhar Express, Sabarmati Express, Avadh-Assam Express arrived late. Padmawat Express that goes to New Delhi via Lucknow was cancelled on Friday.

Indian Railways has over 16 per cent vacancies in safety category, says official data



From April 1 to November 30, a total of 49 consequential train accidents took place as compared to 104 in 2016-2017 and 107 in 2015-2016, according to the figures provided by the railways. (PTI)

While investment in safety-related activities in the railways has increased by 57 per cent during the last three years, 16 per cent of the posts remained vacant in the safety category as of April this year, according to official data. CBI books 13 railway staff for subletting quarters

The Central Bureau of Investigation has registered a case against more than a dozen railway employees for subletting staff quarters to unauthorised persons for monetary benefits.

Acting on specific information, the CBI’s Anti-Corruption Branch launched simultaneous raids on the railway staff quarters at Ayanavaram here last week. The surprise check revealed that 13 railway employees in various ranks had sublet the staff quarters allotted to them, while one private contractor had unauthorisedly occupied a vacant quarters.

The accused, including R. Balaji, senior technician; Chekkasamy, technician, carriage works, Perambur; and private contractor Chinna Krishnan, were booked on charges of criminal breach of trust and cheating besides for offences punishable under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.

GREAT INITIATIVE - ‘T’ for transgenders now in railway ticket registration



Transgenders in the city will now have an option to identify themselves as the third gender while filling ticket reservation forms after the railway board recently made the modifications here.

The option ‘T’, besides M for male and F for female will now be available.

Ludhiana Railway Station commercial inspector Ajaypal Singh said as per a letter received from the Ferozepur Zone instructed reservation counters of the station that ticket booking and cancellation forms will be modified from the current option of just male and female to ‘T’.

Railway coaches with anti-collision device to be built from 2018: Piyush Goyal

  • He said the railways has two kinds of coaches - the Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) and Integral Coach Factory (ICF).
  • The LHB coaches have in-built anti-collision devices which cause less fatalities, while more fatalities have been recorded in the ICF coaches.
  • "As a policy decision, after June 2018 we will not produce any more ICF coaches and only LHB coaches will henceforth be produced," he said.
NEW DELHI: Only those railway coaches which have in-built anti-collision devices will be produced in the country from June 2018, the government said on Friday.
Railway minister Piyush Goyal also told the Rajya Sabha that a policy decision to fill up 50 per cent of the total vacancies of 1.2 to 1.3 lakh in the railways, assessed as per the sanctioned strength, has been taken.

No more filthy tracks and stinking railway stations by the end of 2018. By next year, the entire 1.3 lakh km of the rail route in India will be converted into 'Green Corridors' by replacing all conventional toilets in trains with bio toilets.

This will keep railway tracks free from human waste and thus keep the corridors clean, said a senior railway official.

Union Minster Targets Odisha Govt For Delay In Railway Projects



Bhubaneswar: Taking the ongoing war of words over delay in execution of railway projects to the next level, Union Minister of State for Railways, Rajen Gohain on Saturday blamed Odisha for the tardy progress.

The Union Minister inaugurated the second entry and new station building with reserved and unreserved ticketing system at Bhubaneswar railway station and new station building at Sakhigopal on Saturday.

Earlier, addressing a press conference, Gohain stated that there is no dearth of funds but the railways is not able to complete several projects as Odisha government is yet to provide land for the same.

The minister said that already nearly Rs 5100 crores have been sanctioned for the development of railway infrastructure for 2017-18 financial year. “The railways is not able to carry out the projects due to land acquisition problems which need to be addressed by the Odisha government,” said Gohain.

Gohain further informed that already there are several new projects for Odisha in the pipeline for development of railway infrastructure.

Increasing Unreserved Passenger Coaches in Railways

To cater to the needs of passengers of un-reserved segment following endeavours have been made by the Indian Railways:-
  1.  As a matter of policy, it has been decided that all the Mail/Express trains (except fully reserved trains like Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto, etc.) introduced after 2007-08, shall have at least 6 general class coaches in their standard composition as per feasibility.

Tatkal Ticket Scam Accused Had Pan-India Network: CBI Officials

New Delhi: A CBI official and his crony, who allegedly manipulated Tatkal ticket reservation system of the railways through an illegal software developed by the former, were operating at pan-India level, officials said here today.

“The case is (being pursued) in line with our policy of having a robust internal mechanism of ensuring probity and having a zero-tolerance towards corruption,” CBI Director Alok Verma had said.

Two EMU coaches (second and third coaches from the front) of Moore Market Complex to Pattabiram EMU Train No.43127 derailed at Avadi Station at 23.25 hrs o­n 26/12/2017 while leaving Avadi Station. No Injury or Casualty to any passenger as the train was empty.
Chennai Division Railway Officers rushed to the spot and immediately started restoration work. The first coach was rerailed at 02.20 hrs and the second coach was rerailed at 03.20 hrs. Restoration of track is in progress at the site.

जागरण संवाददाता : यात्रियों की सुरक्षा व रेल हादसे कम करने को रेलवे ने पुरानी शराब नीति में संशोधन किया है। इसके तहत अब ड्यूटी में शराब पीने वाले रेलकर्मियों का निलंबन नहीं बल्कि उन्हें सीधे बर्खास्त कर दिया जाएगा। रेलवे के एक अधिकारी ने बताया कि रेलवे बोर्ड ने रेल मुख्यालयों को संशोधित शराब नीति की कॉपी भेज दी। दिलचस्प बात यह कि अब रेल कर्मचारियों की ब्रेथ एनालाइजर से जांच भी की जाएगी।

नई दिल्ली (एसएनबी)। डिजिटल इंडिया के दौर में अनुपयोगी साबित हो रहे रेलवे के 14 प्रिंटिंग प्रेस बंद होंगे और यहां कार्यरत कर्मचारियों को अन्य इकाइयों में नियुक्त किया जाएगा। इसी तरह, रेलवे में मशीनीकरण और डिजिटलीकरण के कारण कम हुए काम की भी समीक्षा की जा रही है।हाल ही में रेलमंत्री पीयूष गोयल ने रेलवे बोर्ड के आला अधिकारियों और सभी जोनल रेलवे के महाप्रबंधकों के साथ बैठक की थी। बैठक में रेलवे के प्रिंटिंग प्रेसों की समीक्षा की गई थी। इसमें पाया गया था कि अब ये प्रिंटिंग प्रेस उपयोगी नहीं रह गए हैं।

Mumbai: 210 Local Trains Cancelled Till December 25 Due to 4-day Long Mega Block on Harbour Line

Mumbai, Dec 24: The Central Railway and Western Railway has not announced a mega/jumbo block for December 24, Sunday. The mega block is carried out for the maintenance works of rail racks and other related works under both the Railway zones. In a bid to avoid the inconvenience to the passengers, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) releases the schedule of changes in the operations of the local trains which says that there is no mega block on the Central Line and Harbour Line today however, a block is expected to be carried out at night on the Western Line for maintenance work .

The Western Railway announced that on December 24 there will be no jumbo block. However, to carry out maintenance work of tracks, signaling and overhead equipments, a block of three hours each will be undertaken from 23.45 hrs to 02.45 hrs on UP Fast line and from 01.30 hrs to 04.30 hrs on DOWN Fast line between Vasai Road and Vaitarna stations during midnight of 22nd and 23rd December, 2017. During the block all UP and Down Mail/Express trains will be delayed by 15 minutes.

On December 22, it was announced that the Central Railway will carry out a four-day long mega block till December 25 owing to which the local train services on Harbour Line will be disrupted as the Central Railway. During the mega block, local trains between Nerul and Panvel on Harbour Line will be suspended.

On the Harbour line, local train services will be affected between 10 am to roughly 4 pm during the mega block announced on Friday. Earlier it was reported that the mega block will see partial or limited services between December 22-24 and the 13-hour long blanket block on Christmas Day. The Harbour line is expected to remain shut from the morning to about 4:30 pm on the last day of the major exercise.

Around 210 train services will be cancelled between December 22 to 25, while 100 special trains will be run. Normally, there are about 81 trains that start from Belapur, but for these four days, only 67 will be run. The Central Railway will run extra 100 local trains from Vashi, Panvel and Mankhurd to normalise the effect of the mega block.

Manipur villagers obstruct railway work after Chief Minister N Biren Singh rejects inquiry demand

IMPHAL: Angry tribal villagers in Marangjing and Kharam in Tamenglong district of Manipur have started blocking the construction work of railway lines after Chief Minister N. Biren Singh brushed aside their demand for an inquiry into a fraud case.

Expressing resentment over the negligence of the government, the tribals set afire a railway jeep and damaged another on Saturday night. Police on Sunday said it was mob violence and nobody has been arrested.

SECUNDERABAD: A horde of issues sent to Rail Nilayamlong time ago for approval from the office of Deputy Railway Manager, Secunderabad have been stuck in a limbo for two to four years. The DRM office is awaiting a green signal from the South Central Railway headquarters to douse the fumes among railway staff.
The issues, pending at SCRheadquarters for the railway top brass' nod, range from the grant of Honorarium to supervisory staff on conducting departmental inquiry for several months, renovation of deputy station superintendent's office at Lower Yard, Secunderabad to implementation of permanent negotiating machinery (PNM) and putting up barricades to curb dust pollution at Manuguru station.

'Jaipur-Delhi railway route to be electrified by Dec 2018'

JAIPUR: Railway Boardchairman Ashwani Lohani on Saturday said that the work of electrification of Delhi-Jaipurroute is in progress and most likely it will be completed by December 2018. "We are working for completion of electrification of Jaipur-Delhiroute and hopefully it will be completed in December next year," said Lohani, who is on a two day visit of Rajasthan.

The work of electrification is also going on at rapid pace, which will improve average speed of the trains in the country. Lohani said that in this financial year so far, railways have completed 4,000 kms of electrification. In next financial year, 7,500 kms will be done.

Filthy railway lines gets attention, but a permanent solution needed to keep it clean

It is not surprising that none of Mumbai’s railway stations made it to the top ranks of a survey that listed over 400 stations across the country on the basis of their cleanliness.

The Central Railway has started cleaning its incredibly filthy railway tracks. In the last three months, according to the railway’s estimate, 30,000 cubic metres of garbage, collected in 500,000 trash bags, have been collected for disposal outside the city.

2017: Less accidents, more aftershocks for Railways

HIGHLIGHTS

  2. Derailments decreased - from 78 in 2016-2017 to 37 - in the first eight months of this year.
