Lucknow Metro safety systems put in place before tunneling operation

Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC) has to construct about 3.5 km underground metro tunnel from Charbagh up 

LUCKNOW: With Lucknow Metro already beginning construction of underground metro corridor from Charbagh to KD Singh Babu Stadium, the corporation announced to have put elaborate safety systems in place for emergency communication, emergency lighting, fire-fighting and emergency evacuation to ensure safety of workmen and inspecting officials during tunneling operations.
Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC) has to construct about 3.5 km underground metro tunnel from Charbagh up to KD Singh Babu Stadium. It has already begun construction at Bapu Bhawan (near Secretariat) on Vidhan Sabha Road. The corridor will have three underground stations namely Hussainganj, Sachivalaya and Hazratganj.

Though LMRC started its construction in the mid of 2016 after through soil testing, traffic diversion studies and survey of nearby buildings, the project is expected to complete by March 2019. Officials said that apart from emergency communication and evacuation systems, regular training of staff, internal and external safety audits and conducting of monthly safety mock drills are some of the other measures that will be adopted to ensure safety.

A senior official said, "All these safety measures adopted by LMRC will help in safe and efficient construction of the underground tunnels at par with the international standards." Besides to make the construction area safe for others and keep it restricted for outsiders' access, the movement would be monitored by a highly advanced system.

LMRC said that access to the tunnel would be available to only authorised personnel through a closely monitored 'Tunnel Access Control System.' All persons entering the construction area would be required to undergo the process of 'Tunnel Safety Induction' before being allowed entry inside the tunnel.
