Safety, Punctuality and Speedy Execution of Projects are of Paramount Importance -Shri Vinod Kumar Yadav, GM, SCR

Safety in rail operations, punctuality of passenger / freight trains and speedy execution of infrastructure are of paramount importance stated Shri Vinod Kumar Yadav, General Manager, South Central Railway. Addressing a large gathering of Railway Officials, Staff & members of the public at the 68th Republic Day Celebrations o­n SCR today i.e., 26th January, 2017 at Railway Sports Complex Grounds, Secunderabad, the General Manager defined the core priority areas for SCR as to provide safe, secure and efficient travel for the rail users.
Utilising the occasion to focus o­n the performance of SCR in the current financial year 2016-17, Shri Vinod Kumar Yadav stated that the Zone has recorded Originating Gross earnings of Rs. 8773 crores, till December 2016. During the period, SCR has loaded 71.5 Million tonnes of Freight Traffic. In terms of Passenger Traffic, 284 Million passengers were carried till December-2016 signifying an increase of 2.5% over last year.
The General Manager informed that o­n the Safety aspect 69 level crossings have been eliminated during the current financial year o­n the Zone and 48 unmanned level crossing have been
converted as manned level crossing. Emphasizing o­n the comfort and convenience of passengers, he stated that nine new pairs of trains have been introduced o­n South Central Railway to meet public expectations, which include the Tirupati – Visakhapatnam AC Double Decker Express and Tirupati / Hyderabad – Vasco Da Gama Express. To cater to the festive season rush, 1220 special trains have been run o­n a dynamic plan basis besides attaching around 12,000 extra coaches to various regular trains during the year. o­ne of the biggest event ‘Krishna Pushkaram’, which was an auspicious event for 3 states under South Central Railway jurisdiction, was effectively handled. 691 special trains were run and 4,871 extra coaches were attached to regular trains carrying 42.6 lakh passengers during Krishna Pushkaram, he added.
The General Manager said that the Zone has spent Rs. 52.27 Crore for passenger amenity works during the current financial year. In addition to enhancing the basic amenities at stations, special initiative has been taken to provide facilities for the specially abled persons at all 74 stations of A1, A & B category. Another innovation has been made to display Braille signage o­n coaches to enhance convenience of rail users.

Earlier, Shri Vinod Kumar Yadav unfurled the National Flag and received the guard of honour presented by various contingents representing Railway Protection Force, Civil Defence, National Cadet Corps, Scouts and Guides, Students of Railway Schools etc. Patriotic songs were rendered by students of railway educational institutions while Railway Protection Force troupe presented drills and patriotic songs o­n the occasion.
