Consequent upon the decision taken by the Government on the recommendations of the Seventh Central Pay Commission relating to Breakdown Allowance, the Board have decided that the rates of Breakdown Allowance indicated in this Ministry’s letter No.E(P&A)II-2007/FE-4/3 dated 25-9-2009 and further revised vide Board’s letter No.E(P&A)I-2011/SP-1/Misc.1 dated 13.06.2011 and No.E(P&A)I-2014/SP-1/Genl.2 dated 19.05.2014 may be revised as under :-

Nordic Investment Bank and Latvian Railways have agreed a €22·8m 12-year loan to finance an ongoing project for LDz Ritošā Sastāva Serviss to rebuild 14 twin-section 2M62Us locomotives into Type 2M62UM locos. The replacement of the engines, electrical systems and most above-floor components is expected to extend their lifetime by 30 years and comply with EU Stage IIIA emissions standards.

Two MoUs have been signed in the course of the visit of President of the Swiss Confederation, Mrs. Doris Leuthard to India on today i.e.31.8.2017 between Ministry of Railways and Swiss Confederation.

The first MoU is between Ministry of Railways and Federal Department of the Environment, Transport and Communications of the Swiss Confederation for technical cooperation in Rail Sector. This was signed in the presence of Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi and President of the Swiss Confederation, Mrs. Doris Leuthard by Shri Ashwani Lohani, Chairman Railway Board and Dr. Andreas Baum, Swiss Ambassador to India.

SER TO RUN ONE PAIR OF HOWRAH-THIRUVANANTHAPURAM SPECIAL

To clear extra rush of passengers o­n the eve of o­nam Festival, South Eastern Railway will run o­ne pair Special Train between Howrah-Thiruvananthapuram-Howrah leaving Howrah o­n 02.09.17 and leaving Thiruvananthapuram o­n 05.09.17.

The Special Train (02508) leaving Howrah at 01.05 hrs o­n 02.09.17 will reach Thiruvananthapuram at 22.35 hrs the next day. In the opposite direction, the Special Train (02507) will leave Thiruvananthapuram at 17:00 hrs o­n 05.09.17 arriving Howrah at 13:55 hrs o­n 07.09.17. 

The Special train will have o­ne AC-3 Tier, twelve Sleeper Class, o­ne Composite Coach and three General Second Class coaches.

RESCHEDULING OF TRAIN SERVICES


Due to dislocation of train services caused by floods in Mumbai area, the following train services are rescheduled as given below.


1.Train No.16348 Mangalore Central – Thiruvananthapuram Central express, scheduled to leave Mangalore Central at 14.20 hrs. on 31.08.2017, has been rescheduled to leave Mangalore Central at 17.45 hrs. o­n 31.08.2017due to late running of pairing train.

2.Train No.11022 Tirunelveli – Dadar express, scheduled to leave Tirunelveli at 14.55 hrs. on 31.08.2017, has been rescheduled to leave Tirunelveli at 23.00 hrs. o­n 01.09.2017 due to late running of pairing train.

Network Rail reopens Waterloo station after upgrade works



Network Rail has completely reopened Waterloo station in the UK following a series of complex upgrade works that lasted for nearly three and a half weeks.

The modernisation works form part of the £800m Waterloo and South West Upgrade, which included the extension of platforms one to four in order to accommodate longer ten-car trains.

The programme is expected to increase overall capacity at the station by 30% by December next year and support additional 45,000 passengers during peak hours.

India, Swiss Confederation to sign MoU on railway infrastructure

The President of the Swiss Confederation, Doris Leuthard, on Thursday said that both countries will sign trade agreements and a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on railway infrastructure.

Leuthard said this after she was given a ceremonial reception at the Rashtrapati Bhavan as she arrived in New Delhi on her three-day visit to India.

She also said her visit would give a boost to the Indo-Swiss ties as both countries have 70 years of friendship.

‘City needs ring rail to cope with jams’

PATNA: The state government should tie up with railways to build a dedicated circular rail or ring rail service for the state capital to cope with the increasing traffic pressure on its roads, experts feel.

Former chief engineer and railways expert G N Sahay said a circular rail or ring rail service in Patna and its adjoining areas would offload traffic pressure on the streets, which have already reached saturation points. Traffic snarls and road jams have become a daily routine for Patna, causing immense hardships to the common people and office-goers, he said.

The Department of Infrastructure project will further integrate rail and bus services and enhance the area for the benefit of residents, visitors and businesses.

Central Railway removes mud from tracks post mishap



Till Wednesday 5 pm, all the local trains towards Kasara were cancelled.
Officials said hundreds of employees led by the general manager are working non-stop at the derailment site for more than 30 hours.

Mumbai: Following the derailment of the Nagpur-Mumbai Duronto express train on Tuesday, Central Railway authorities have started removing the mud, which fell on the tracks due to a landslide caused by heavy rains.

Kolhapur-Shirdi train service to start soon

Kolhapur: The much awaited Kolhapur-Shirdi train service is likely to start soon as the Pune division has informed the railway administration about its feasibility, said a senior railway official of the Pune railway division on Wednesday.

Citizens and railway activists have been demanding a train service connecting two pilgrimages in Kolhapur and Shirdi. Earlier, local MP Dhananjay Mahadik had held a discussion with Union railway minister Suresh Prabhau about the service.

A senior railway official of Pune division of the central railways said, "The railway administration had sought details of the demand of a the train connecting Kolhapur and Shirdi. We have submitted reports on the viability of new facility and its benefits to people commuting from both ends. After some paper work, the new train service is likely to start.

Take a 50-second ride on tiny railway Angels Flight, reopening in Los Angeles this weekend



After four years of renovations, the Los Angeles Times reports one of the world’s shortest railway is set to open again this week.

Angels Flight in Los Angeles is a historic funicular that first opened in 1901. Billed as a tourist novelty, it was often used by local workers traveling to jobs in downtown L.A. However, it closed in the 1960s and the two cars, Sinai and Olivet, spent 27 years in storage. In 1996, Angels Flight opened once again and operated between Hill Street and Olive Street, just a half block from its original location.

Digha train: Railways spends Rs 72 lakh, earns only Rs 5,000



PATNA: It may sound strange, but the railways on Tuesday admitted that it spends Rs72 lakh and earns only Rs5,640 annually by running a train on Patna-Digha route. Though the train service has been temporally suspended for a few days because of some technical works going on platform number 2 of Patna Junction, it causes traffic snarls on Bailey Road crossing around 10am and 4pm during peak hours, daily.

Zambia creates a Railway Development Agency


Government says it has created a Railway Development Agency ( RDA) to facilitate the separation of railway infrastructure and maintenance from railway operations.

Minister of Transport and Communications Brian Mushimba says this is aimed at allowing Zambia Railways Limited ( ZRL ) to focus on running its business operations competitively and in a sustainable manner being bogged down into costly maintenance of the permanent way.

Train service to northeast resumes

GUWAHATI: Train service from the rest of the country to the northeast, which had come to a grinding halt during the second week of this month due to extensive flooding, finally resumed after about a fortnight on Tuesday. The first goods train after resumption of services arrived in Telta at 14:25 pm on Tuesday, passing over the repaired section between Sudhani and Telta stations in Bihar safely.

NF Railway officials said though goods train services to the region have resumed, passenger trains will start rolling only from September 3.

NHRC directs railway board to pay Rs 4 lakh compensation

CUTTACK: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has recommended chairman of Railway Board to pay a compensation of Rs 4 lakh to Benudhar Bhoi who has lost his leg after allegedly falling from running train in Bhadrak in 2009 .

The commission has directed Railways to pay the compensation amount to the victim and submit its compliance report within eight weeks.

SAIL, INDIAN RAILWAYS INK LTTC AGREEMENT

Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) and Indian Railways have entered into a strategic agreement on Long Term Tariff Contract (LTTC) on Tuesday, a Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) press release informed.

The agreement was signed in the presence of senior officers of Railways and SAIL in the office of CCM of South Eastern Railway in Kolkata.

Meghalaya: Centre exudes confidence to bring railway to Shillong



SHILLONG, Aug 30, 2017: While the railway issue in the state continues to be dragged from one end to another, there seems to be no end to the political blame game over the issue especially at a time when the state is set to go to polls next year.

Minister of State for Railway Rajen Gohain on Wednesday expressed confidence that the project will see the light of the day post 2018 Assembly polls with the BJP coming to power while condemning the state government for ‘lack of interest’ on the issue.

Three Telangana ministers among 14 acquitted in 2011 rail roko case



All 14 accused, including three Telangana ministers, were acquitted on Wednesday by a Railway court in Secunderabad in a 2011 ‘rail roko’ protest case after the key witness turned hostile. The protest was held at the Moula Ali Railway Station here on March 1, 2011, for carving out Telangana from Andhra Pradesh. The special judicial first class court for the Railways acquitted Nayani Narasimha Reddy, currently Home Minister in the Telanagana cabinet, and his colleagues K T Rama Rao and T Padma Rao, along with the 11 accused, after the loco pilot of the held up passenger train (Godavari Express) turned hostile.

Police constable's body found on railway track



A 50-year-old police constable was found dead on the railway track near Miryalaguda railway station in Nalgonda district on Wednesday morning.

The deceased was identified as T Srinivas Chary and the identity card found nearby confirmed that the constable was a resident of Nalgonda.

He had been working with Traffic police station at Miryalaguda town. However, whether the cause of death is a suicide or an accident is yet to be known.

RPF rescued 214 children till July in northeast frontier railway zone

The Railway Protection Force rescued a total of 214 children until July end this year from different areas in Northeast Frontier Railway zone. While most of the minors were rescued from child traffickers, the figure also included those who went missing and runaway children.

NFR’s Chief Public Relations Officer Pranav Jyoti Sharma on Wednesday informed that nine child traffickers were arrested by the RPF during the period. “RPF, which is continuously safeguarding railway passenger and railway property, is extending humanitarian service by remaining in the forefront of fight against child trafficking”, he stated on Wednesday.

Devendra Fadnavis reviews railways, Metro and road projects



An official added that Fadnavis also reviewed the Goregaon Mulund Link Road, Coastal road and Pune and Nagpur Metro.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday reviewed the railway, Metro and road projects with the senior state government officials. According to the officials, Fadnavis has decided to hold a meeting with the railway minister to set up a car shed at Kharghar for the CST-Panvel elevated corridor.

Indian Railways – a need to infuse capital investment



Railways have been cheapest, safest and comfortable mode of travel and one may always prefer the same over other mode of travel. The railways also fulfills social obligations and provide concessions to freedom fighters, gallantry award winners, senior citizen, patients suffering from particular illness, quarterly/monthly season pass etc.

Railways to set up watering facility at Dr. Ambedkar Nagar station



INDORE: As the railways plans to operate long distance trains from Dr. Ambedkar Nagar Railway Station in Mhow, a water filling facility will be installed at platform numbers 2 and 3.

According to official sources in the railways, there is no water filling facility at platforms 2 and 3, and as a result operating long distance trains was put on hold here. "A proposal to install a water filling facility has been sent to the division and work on this is likely to begin soon," they said.

Railways contractors strike work including track maintenance. Is passenger safety being compromised?


Indian Railways contractors are protesting against government's decision to impose 12 per cent GST on services by way of construction, erection, commissioning and installation with retrospective effect.

Though the work has come to a halt at under-construction bridges, the worst affected are the railway tracks whose maintenance has been outsourced to private contractors.

India-Bangladesh railway line to be commissioned by 2018

Agartala, Aug 30: The new India-Bangladesh railway project along Tripura would be commissioned by next year-end and would be operational by January 2019, officials said here on Wednesday.
Senior officials of India and Bangladesh held a two-day meeting in Dhaka on Sunday and Monday, and visited the proposed locations of the railway project on Wednesday.
“The Dhaka meeting has decided to commission the Agartala (India)-Akhaura (Bangladesh) railway project by next year-end and it would be operational by January 2019,” Tripura Transport Secretary Samarjit Bhowmik said here.
