Railways to launch a mobile application for booking flight tickets

The integrated mobile app will cater to various needs of passengers like booking porter, retiring room, ordering food besides train tickets. It is being developed by the CRIS, the Railways' software arm, at an estimated cost of seven crore rupees.

Railway cops to regulate entry and exit points at 11 CR stations

The GRP and RPF on Thursday decided that the police presence will be increased particularly on the 27 unauthorised entry and exit points.

Mumbai: In a bid to regulate the entry and exit points at the stations, the Railway Police Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) have identified 11 Central Railways (CR) stations with 27 unauthorised entry and exit points.

As per a recent tweet by the Ministry of Railways, the Indian Railways has lessened the burden on passengers who find it difficult to book tickets in English by launching an e-ticketing portal in Hindi. This would, however, facilitate hassle free booking tickets as passengers would have an access to details in Hindi which would help in better understanding of fares, stations, offers and discounts.

Indian Railways has decided to remove one toilet each from over 40 thousand coaches citing space constraints. As per reports, the Indian Railways lacks sufficient space to keep food trays and beverages in train coaches. They are generally kept in the vestibule near the toilet area, which not only is a health hazard but also unclean, CNN-News18 reported.

Railways set the stock rolling to bring back Ring Rail on track

NEW DELHI: Delhi's Ring railway may be revived soon. Northern Railways plans to run both freight and goods trains on tracks parallel to each other.

However, encroachments at certain sections of the circuit have been preventing the authorities from executing their ideas, officials said.

Under the present two-track system, 90 goods trains run along with just nine passenger ones. Railway officials plan to add two more tracks, which would run parallel to the existing system. The additional tracks could be used for more passenger trains.

While the existing 24-coach Mumbai Rajdhani has a sanctioned speed of 130 kmph, its average speed is about 90 kmph due to the curves and numerous other speed restrictions along the 1,386-km route that takes 15.35 hours.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has approved the construction of double line with electrification between Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala and Kanniyakumari in Tamil Nadu.

The total length of the line will be 86.56 km. The estimated cost of the Project will be Rs.1431.90 crore and completion cost of Rs.1552.94 crore with 5% escalation per annum. 

The project is likely to be completed in four years by 2020-21. The project will generate direct employment during construction for 20.77 lakh mandays.

The total length of the line will be 160 km. The estimated cost of the Project will be Rs.1182.31 crore and completion cost of Rs.1272.51 crore with 5% escalation per annum. 

The project is likely to be completed in four years by 2020-21. The project will generate direct employment during construction for 38.40 lakh mandays.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has approved the construction of double line with electrification between Vanchi-Maniyachchi- Nagercoil via Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu.


The total length of the line will be 102 km. The estimated cost of the Project will be Rs.1003.94 crore and completion cost of Rs.1114.62 crore with 5% escalation per annum. 
The project is likely to be completed in four years by 2020-21. The project will generate direct employment during construction for 24.48 lakh mandays.
