Panchkula side of Chandigarh railway station in need of upkeep

 Chandigarh railway station's entry from Panchkula side has been lying in a neglected state. It lacks not only civic amenities for the passengers but is also unsafe during late evening. During a visit to the station, it was found that there was only one washroom on Panchkula side, which passengers were not able to use as it remained unclean mostly.

As a part of Prime Minister Modi's Digital India initiative, the Indian Railways have partnered with Google to provide Wi-Fi broadband facility to passengers at major railway stations across the country. This Google RailTel initiative was launched in January 2016 and till date has reached 140 stations across India. Their lofty aim is to reach 400 stations by 2018.

New Delhi: The Indian Railways earned Rs 1,400 crore from ticket cancellation charges in 2016-17, the government said on Saturday. The earnings show an increase of 25 percent from the previous financial year.

The jump in the earnings may be attributed to the doubling of cancellation charges from November 2015.
