Night Duty Allowance & Calculation
Night Duty Allowance is granted to Govt Employees who work in Night Shift. Calculation of NDA Hours is counted from the hours duty performed in Night Shift from 10.00 PM to 6.00AM.
Weightage of 10 minutes for every hour of duty performed between 22:00 Hrs and 06:00 Hrs will be taken for calculation of payment of NDA.
The hourly rate of Night Duty Allowance is calculated through this approved formula
Night Duty Hours for Duty Performed from 2200 Hrs to 0600 Hrs is 80 minutes.
For 6 Days a week 6 x 80 Minutes = 480 Minutes = 8 Hours/ Week
The payment NDA for 8 Hours
If the basic Pay = Rs.41000
DA @ 7% = Rs. 2870
So the
Hourly Rate of NDA = 41000 + 2870 / 200
= Rs. 220 / Hour
For 8 Hours = Rs. 1760

Night Duty Allowance is granted to Govt Employees who work in Night Shift – Calculation of NDA Hours is counted from the hours duty performed in Night Shift from 10.00 PM to 6.00AM. Night Duty Allowance – Weightage of 10 minutes for every hour of duty performed between 22:00 Hrs and 06:00 Hrs will be taken for calculation of payment of NDA.

Sub:-Revision of the rates of Night Duty Allowance (NDA) – recommendations of 7th Central Pay Commission.
Please refer to Board’s letter No. E(P&A)II-2008/HW-2, dt. 16.12.2008 (RBE N0.199/2008) as amended from time to time regarding revision of rates of Night Duty Allowance (NDA) during 6th CPC period.
2. Consequent upon the decision taken by the Government of India on the recommendations of the 7’11 CPC, the President is pleased to decide that the hourly rate of NDA shall be equal to {(Basic Pay+Dearness Allowance)/200} which would be admissible to eligible categories of non-gazetted Railway Servants classified under chapter XIV of the Railway Act, 1989 read with the Railway Servants (Hours of Work and Period of Rest) Rules, 2005 for work put in during the period from 2200 hrs to 0600 hrs. The rate should be worked out separately for each employee. The present formulation of weightage of 10 minutes for every hour of duty performed between the hours of22:00 and 06:00 would continue.
3. The grant of NDA shall be subject to furnishing of a certificate by the supervisor concerned that Night Duty is essential.
4. The revised rates of NOA shall be admissible with effect from the 15th of July, 2017.
5. These orders would be subject to modification, if any, after the issue of instructions by the Nodal Ministry i.e. Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions (Department of Personnel & Training).
6. This issues with the concurrence of the Finance Directorate of the Ministry of Railways.

Night Duty Hours for Duty Performed from 2200 Hrs to 0600 Hrs is 80 minutes.
For 6 Days a week 6 x 80 Minutes = 480 Minutes = 8 Hours/ Week
The payment NDA for 8 Hours
If the basic Pay = Rs.41000 DA @ 7% = Rs. 2870
So the - Hourly Rate of NDA = 41000 + 2870 / 200 = Rs. 220 / Hour For 8 Hours = Rs. 1760

E(P&A)II-2011/HW-2 dated 29.11.2011 stand revised with effect from 01.01.2012 as indicated at Annexure ‘A’ in respect of ‘Continuous’, ‘Intensive’, ‘Excluded’ categories and workshop employees, and as indicated at Annexure ‘B’ in respect of ‘Essentially Intermittent’ categories.
