The Railways has conceded a long-pending demand of establishing a new pit line in Gulbarga, which will enable originating and terminating trains at the railway station.
Minister for Railways M. Mallikarjun Kharge will inaugurate the works on the pit line as well as the Rs. 28.35-crore railway overbridge (ROB) project on the Gulbarga–Afzalpur State Highway in the outskirts of the city on Saturday.
Sources in the Central Railways said here on Thursday that the Railways would establish a 24-coach pit line at Gulbarga railway station at a cost of Rs. 6 crore, and the work was expected to be completed within six months.
With Gulbarga emerging as an important destination for healthcare services and higher education, it has become imperative to start train services from the Gulbarga railway station.
The ROB project has been taken up on cost sharing basis with the State government, and is expected to be completed within a year’s period.
