The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Chief Office Supdt., DRM Office, Western Railway, Mumbai (Maharashtra) for accepting bribe of Rs. 50,000/- from a complainant (representative of a private company).
CBI registered a case against the accused on allegations of demanding bribe from the complainant for processing bills of a private company. It was alleged that the company is a regular supplier of Western Railways and used to submit bills against supplying materials to Western Railways for payments. It was further stated that complainant (representative of the company) used to follow up on behalf of said company, with Accounts Department of Western Railways for timely passing and payments of bills. It was alleged that the said company had recently supplied materials to Western Railway and submitted three bills amounting to Rs.4.80 Crore (approx.) against the materials supplied. It was also alleged that the said accused was processing officer at the Accounts Section of DRM Office. When the complainant allegedly approached the said Chief Office Supdt. for processing the Bills, accused demanded bribe of Rs. 100.00 per lakh of total billed amount of Rs. 4.80 crore (approx. Rs. 50,000/- as bribe) from the complainant.
CBI has laid a trap and apprehended the accused while accepting said bribe of Rs. 50,000/- in his office at Mumbai.
Searches were conducted at two locations at the premises of the accused, which led to recovery of incriminating documents, etc.
The arrested accused is being produced before the Competent Court, Mumbai
