A delegation of all five MLAs from Kasaragod district will meet Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and his Cabinet members in the first week of July to press implementation of the Kanhangad-Kaniyooru rail line that provides easiest access to Bangalore.
The MLAs are planning to seek the requisite 50 per cent allocation of funds from the State to commence the work, a proposal mandated by the Railway ministry to take up rail projects in a State. A decision to this effect was taken after senior office-bearers of the Kanhangad Nagara Vikasana Samithi sought the support of the IUML and Left MLAs to remove hurdles to the project. The meeting, held here on Saturday, was attended among others by action committee chairman P. Appukkuttan.
